LUCINI WINS GOLD AT INTERNATIONAL OLIVE OIL COMPETITION
Limited Reserve® Premium Select Extra Virgin Olive Oil® honored at the prestigious 2013 New York International Olive Oil Competition
Lucini Italia is proud to announce that its 100% Organic Limited Reserve® Premium Select Extra Virgin Olive Oil® was awarded a gold medal at the annual New York International Olive Oil Competition held in April in New York City.
Considered to be one of the most elite olive oil competitions in the world, the NYIOOC boasted over 650 extra virgin olive oils from 23 countries worldwide. The oils were rated by an expert panel of 15 highly esteemed international judges in a double blind tasting who evaluated the oils by rating each oil’s fruitiness, pungency and bitterness while noting any defects that are not allowed in extra virgin olive oil by law.
Over fifty percent of the oils submitted were disqualified due to olfactory defects such as muddy sediment and rancidity. The remaining qualified oils were then grouped into categories such as Robust, Delicate, and Medium.
Many of the competing oils hail from some of the best, boutique olive oil producers in the world. Lucini was among the elite and recieved a gold medal in the Northern Hemisphere Robust Category.

Harvested near Bolgheri, Tuscany in late October to capture the full flavor and peak health properties, the 100% organic olives used in Limited Reserve® Premium Select Extra Virgin Olive Oil® are handpicked and crushed within 24 hours. Renowned for its Tuscan taste profile, the oil is big and green, with hints of artichoke, almond and a strong peppery finish. The oil naturally achieves an acidity of 0.2%.
The award ceremony was preceded by two full days of lectures and demonstrations by the world’s leading olive oil experts. Trade attendees participated in panel tastings and learned the importance of producing premium extra virgin olive oil.
